WHEN 'OPPORTUNITY' KNOCKS

This is part one in a series of articles about Discovering and Neutralizing Limiting Beliefs

It has been getting a lot of media buzz.  It’s been the subject of countless books and workshops—and more recently it has become a movie star.  It’s also been on Oprah and Larry King.

What am I talking about?  It’s The Law of Attraction, of course (subsequently referred to as “The Law”). And although it’s been around since the beginning of time and has had a loyal cult following, it’s enjoying a newfound popularity and being discovered for the first time for many people.

It’s an exciting concept with a very sexy message:  You attract what you focus on, so just change your focus to what you want to create and watch your life change for the better.

So what’s the catch?

Many of you, in trying to put this principle to work in your lives, doubtless, have found out firsthand.

Our persistent beliefs and the habitual emotional responses they generate are the culprits that sabotage The Law and make it seem like it’s not working.

In previous articles, I have spoken about what often happens when one activates The Law by stating one’s desires in a clear, effective manner: everything in one’s belief system that is at odds with this request comes up to the surface.

I probably don’t have to tell you that to the human way of thinking, this is not very much fun.

But, as I’ve stated before, that there is action happening is good news, rather than bad news.

And if you don’t allow yourself to be scared off by these (seemingly) intense happenings, this can be a time of incredible opportunity.

When a setback presents itself, it is almost always pointing toward a belief that is begging to be discovered, neutralized and transformed!

The first step in doing this is noticing.  Those of you who have been reading my articles for a while and speaking with me know that I am a big advocate of noticing.  In fact, I believe it is next to impossible to change a habit or habitual way of thinking or reacting without first entering into a period of noticing.

One tactic I have been sharing with clients recently is to actually look forward to those instances when challenges or “issues” arise, knowing you are being led to and shown the areas in which you have invested power.

Put another way, anytime something appears to go wrong, and we are compelled to react to this circumstance, we are being presented with the opportunity to take power back from a limiting belief (even if we don’t know exactly what the belief is yet).

The secret to this is to have the intention to be a noticer without judgment, whether it be judgment of the situation (“this is really bad”, etc) or judgment of yourself and/or others (“I was so stupid to say that,” etc.).

Notice I said have the intention.  Judging will most times be automatic, part of your habitual response to the situation.   Just notice the judgment along with the trigger and the response.

When you do this, a shift occurs in the way you experience the situation and yourself in it.  In some cases, the issue transforms before your eyes.  Neutrality happens!  In other instances, the noticing needs to persist over time. If this is done mindfully, the process itself will give you information on the belief and how to further neutralize and transform it.

Stay tuned for my next article on further steps to release limiting beliefs and open the door for The Law of Attraction to work wonders in your life.
