the gift of release

Would you like to release something from your life to make way for something better to come to you?  Most people have an immediate 'Yes!' answer to that question.  But even if you didn’t, read on.  There may be something that is not so apparent, yet the release of it will free-up your creative energies in such a way that you will be instantly opened to new insight, opportunity and growth.

The area of life in which this dissatisfaction and consequent need for release most often shows up for my clients is in the area of job and career.  Many people are working at jobs they don’t love because they believe in concepts such as 'security', 'benefits' and most erroneously, the apparent scarcity of money.

The bad news is that these beliefs are very ingrained in most of us.  And of course, these terms can be applied to relationship as well as job.  The old idea is don’t give up what you’ve got.  You may not get anything else.

The good news, well, there’s lots of good news...Part one of the good news is that this is not true.  Pure and simple.  In fact it is legend that the courageous soul who refuses to settle for less than the best very often gets the best.  Part two of the good news is, you don’t have to believe part one in order to release successfully. (Which means you can go right on being human. Whew!)

Think about this idea for a minute: If you go into work every day hating your job, it will be very hard for you to move on.  Hate, or extreme dislike is a very powerful creative energy.  Love is more powerful, but hate can create a thing nearly as well oftentimes.  When you dislike intensely any situation, what do you think about?  What makes a knot in your stomach.  What won’t let you sleep?

Are you ready for more good news?  Your dissatisfaction is a sign from the Universe (your higher consciousness) that your yearning to be and do more in the world has been heard!  That means you can now begin the process of moving on (without sacrificing ' security' or ' benefits').

Doing a release ceremony is a powerful way to acknowledge you have heard this call for release and to activate the higher forces on behalf of the fulfillment of your purpose by expediting to you those opportunities that will move you forward.

The way you conduct your ceremony does not much matter.  Here are some loose guidelines.  I like to light a small white candle (white is the color of clearing and release) even a tea lite or birthday candle will do.  Then, I like to say a few words in the form of a prayer, acknowledging that I have received the message that something better is calling me.  The next step is gratitude, thanking the old job, situation or relationship for all it has given me.  This includes the tough lessons which have strengthened me.  I may write this out, then say it aloud, then symbolically burn the list as a release of the lessons I have received from it.  Next, I like to have an object to place next to the candle that symbolizes my release.  Ideally, a small object, such as a stone.  On the rock, I can draw a symbol (such as a bird or butterfly) or write a word (release, freedom, purpose).  I will keep this object with me as a reminder that I have done the release, that I no longer need to get into a tailspin as a result of whatever happens in the situation. (Example:  Bob from accounting makes a snide remark that in the past has made me think of how much I hate my job.)

Note:  Some clients with whom I have shared this process have expressed a fear of doing it, as they feel they still 'need' the job or relationship and don’t want to have it forcefully taken from them.  My experience in doing this and working with clients who have is that doing a release ceremony provides a much smoother path by which to release the situation from one’s life than holding on to the thing out of fear while struggling with it.  When you have acknowledged that you have heard the call of your higher consciousness to release, the chances of a 'rude awakening' type of experience such as being fired are greatly lessened.

Once you have done this process, remain in trust that the new opportunity is on its way to you and that you will be alert to it.  When you find yourself getting keyed-up over some aspect of the job--you might, especially if you are human ;)--just touch the object and remember the release you have done.  It may also help to have a visual reminder in your environment that you have done this release work.  Trust that the Universe is not going to hang you out to dry (even if it seems that way, know that this is illusion).  And remember to celebrate daily that you are on your path to greater purpose and an increase in life energy!
